In the midst of all the social unrest in our society, the Session of Faith Church feels the need to speak out. At a Zoom meeting last night, the elders and I approved the following statement:
The Need to Speak Out
Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked. (Proverbs 25:26)
Faith Presbyterian Church of Olney fully embraces that every person is created in God’s image: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)
In addition, Christ commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves: The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:31)
Therefore we stand up in solidarity against injustice: …cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; (Isaiah 1: 16-17)
We are devastated by the senseless death of Mr. George Floyd, and many other victims of injustice who came before him. We hope the day will come soon when despicable actions like these are a thing of the past, and everyone can live with the weight of injustice lifted off their shoulders.
We support the peaceful protests that help to bring positive change while we condemn violence of any kind.
